{"id":581,"date":"2024-11-14T18:30:35","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T18:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visualstressclinic.ca\/?page_id=581"},"modified":"2026-01-21T01:34:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T01:34:13","slug":"migraine","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/opticalm.ca\/fr\/migraine\/","title":{"rendered":"La migraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"et_pb_section_0 et_pb_section et_section_regular et_block_section\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_row_0 et_pb_row et_block_row\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column_0 et_pb_column et_pb_column_2_3 et_block_column et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_accordion_0 et_pb_accordion et_pb_module et_block_module preset--module--divi-accordion--1d4c8462-fda3-45f8-8b7c-cf670041e540\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_0 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module preset--module--divi-text--32c4d5c6-ac4d-49d3-9b52-38ab407aae5b\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Migraine<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bright lights and certain patterns can induce perceptual illusions\/distortions and visual discomfort in most people\u202fas well as\u202fheadaches in patients with migraines.\u202fVisual stimuli are common triggers for migraine attacks, possibly because of a hyperexcitability of the visual cortex shown in patients with migraines.\u202fIndividually prescribed precision\u202ftinted\u202flenses\u202f(PTLs)\u202fhave been shown to\u202freduce perceptual distortions and visual discomfort and to prevent migraine headaches in some patients.\u202fRecent studies have demonstrated the\u202fnormalization of cortical activation and spatial frequency tuning in migraineurs\u202fwhen using\u202fPTLs, suggesting\u202fa neurological basis for the therapeutic effect of these lenses in reducing visual cortical hyperactivation in migraines. [<a href=\"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1177\/0333102411409076\">1<\/a>]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The cortex is generally\u202fhyperexcitable\u202fin migraines,\u202fand this\u202fhyperexcitability\u202fhas been found to be the\u202funderlying mechanism of Visual Stress.\u202fVisual Stress\u202fresults from\u202fa hyper\u202fresponse to strong\u202fvisual\u202fsensory stimulation\u202fthat\u202fcauses\u202fa spread of excitation through\u202fthe visual\u202fcortex, leading to\u202fthe inappropriate firing of neurons and\u202fresulting in perceptual illusions and distortions,\u202fthat often promote\u202fa migraine\u202fattack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The efficacy of\u202fprecision\u202fophthalmic tints\u202fin preventing\u202fmigraine headache has been reported in several studies [<a href=\"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1177\/0333102411409076\">1<\/a>] [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2478741\/\">2<\/a>] [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/12421156\">3<\/a>] showing the suppressing effect of the\u202fPTLs\u202fon visual cortical activity in migraine with aura\u202fpatients,\u202fsuggesting\u202fa possible new prophylactic therapy\u202ffor migraines. They are safe, free of side effects, and relatively inexpensive.
